Wixom Area Insight

  • I was at the city hall and thought the fountain looked nice. So, I decided to shoot a little video of it. Anyway, it would be a nice place to sit with a friend, overlooking the jetted fountain, on a balmy summer evening. The park includes city offices, a library, a play structure, a basketball court, and other facilities that can be rented. It also hosts a number of activities. The Civic Center Park is within about one-quarter of a mile from the Michigan Air Line Trail which connects to the West Bloomfield Trail. There is a proposed phase ll of the Michigan Air Line Trail that will connect to the Huron Valley Trail at the other end. For now, there is a temporary sidewalk path down Pontiac Trail Road to the Huron Valley Trail. I have linked to the trail map below.

  • Gibson Community Park in Wixom is a nice little 6-acre park with a restored 1870's farmhouse. It is on Pontiac Trail Road. There is a trail linking it to Lyon Oaks County Park via the sidewalk in front that connects the Huron Valley Trail which has a spur that runs into Lyon Oaks. From here you can ride your bike almost anywhere.

    The temporary Michigan Air Line Trail runs along Pontiac Trail Road which will take you to either Michigan Air Line Trail or the Huron Valley Trail. It also has community gardens with plots that can be rented. There are a number of events and activities hosted there for seniors and teens.

  • Lyon Oaks County Park straddles the border between Wixom and Lyon Township. The Huron Valley Trail runs in front of it with a trail spur that connects the park making it bike or hike accessible from the Huron Valley Trail or any connecting trail. This is going to be a very extensive trail system when it is complete. Lyon Oaks is a 1,000-acre park with over 800 acres of wetland and six miles of hiking trails.   • Wixom, MI
    Wixom Habitat
    Wixom Habitat is a 292-acre nature preserve located at 1199 N Wixom Road. Presently it only has about a one-half mile of trails and boardwalk. It is a large preserve, so there is a lot of room for future expansion of its trail system. They are wide and well maintained. There is a nice lake viewing platform of East Gallager Lake. It is accessible from the city bike path so you can easily bike to it and then ride the trails. More trails and facilities are planned for this area.
