    Huron Valley Trail
    The Huron Valley Trail runs from South Lyon to Wixom. It is intended to extend to the west from South Lyon and connect to other trails leading all the way past Jackson. Michigan has over 2,600 miles of trails which is more than any other state and we are expanding. The trail currently extends to Wixom with a branch that connects to the Kensington Metro Park and Island Lake State Recreation Area both of which have their own internal trail systems as well as other activities. It runs through South Lyon School District.

    According to Niche.com, South Lyon is ranked 60th of 338 best suburbs to raise a family in Michigan. South Lyon has highly ranked schools, it is close to freeways, shopping, and night life. It is located on the edge of greater Detroit, between Detroit and other urban areas.

  • Witch's Hat Depot Museum and Historic Village in South Lyon is a nice community amenity that includes an old church, a one-room school, a train depot, and a museum. I have included a link to the city's web page for it and a brief drive through video. It is in or adjacent to McHattie Park and would be a great place to take your kids. Special tours can be arranged. I have included a link to a video of McHattie Park below.

  • McHattie Park in South Lyon is a nice little park located off Pontiac Trail just south of 10 Mile Road. The park has playscapes, a sledding hill, volleyball, and softball. It is adjacent to the Witch's Hat Historic Village and the Huron Valley Trail.

    When finished, that trail system is supposed to run all the way from Lake Saint Clair to Jackson and beyond. That means it will eventually connect to the Clinton River Trail, West Bloomfield Trail, Paint Creek Trail, and Washtenaw County Border to Border Trail that will run into downtown Ann Arbor and others. That is going to be quite a trail system! You will be able to bike and hike all over Southeast Michigan.
