Plymouth Area Insight

  • So, it's pretty obvious that I love Plymouth's Historic Old Village neighborhood. And that I prefer to explore off the beaten path. This little gem of a store fits the bill on both accounts! Don't let the small size fool you, hours can be spent perusing the treasures inside! Men's and women's vintage clothing and shoes, purses, jewelry, housewares and more can be found, with new items arriving almost daily. Personally, I am a huge music fan, but haven't quite got back on the turntable and vinyl wagon. For those of you who have, the record collection will certainly interest and delight you!
  • Hermann's Olde Town Grill located at the corner of Starkweather and Liberty in Plymouth's Historic Old Village is my local go-to. I am not alone! It's the winning combination of atmosphere, food, and craft beer selection on tap that makes it hard to go wrong here. The menu consists of bar food done better, and offers something for everyone: salads, wraps, pizza, fish, and of course burgers.

My current favorite selection is the Special Grilled Cheese with gouda, muenster, apple slices, and bacon on raisin bread! And the French fries are always perfect! Hermann's Olde Town Grille is not exactly a sports bar, but there are enough screens that you can watch whatever game or event interests you from somewhere inside. They have also added a covered big-screen television outside if you prefer to drink, dine, and watch al fresco! Hermann's is pretty busy most of the time, but with the expanded outdoor seating and added heaters, they can accommodate more happy customers! I highly recommend that you make yourself one of them! Just look for the giant moose painted on the Starkweather side of the building and you will know you have found it!

Liberty Street Brewing, where you are free to drink a variety of delicious small-batch brews and even ciders. The selection always includes an IPA, an Amber, a Stout, a light brew such as a Blonde, and usually offers something new and interesting. My current favorite is Soul Geometry, a hazy New England-style IPA. Delicious! And the atmosphere is as good as the beer. This place is serious reason enough to move to Plymouth!

Espresso Elevado at 606 S. Main Street in Plymouth is, appropriately, located just off the beaten path of downtown. It is just a little more interesting than your average coffee shop, and the name says it all! The in-house roasted beans elevate the coffee and the entire experience. You can choose from hand-poured, cold brewed, even Japanese-style iced, as well as all of the standard espresso drinks.

The menu includes standard flavors such as caramel, as well as house specialties like curried honey and lavender vanilla bean. Of course, there are always seasonal specialties to try too! Just this week on a rather warm fall day, I had the candied clove cappuccino, with house-made clove syrup over ice. It was pure perfection! Not a coffee drinker? Espresso Elevado has tea and hot cocoa options as well. Next time you are in Downtown Plymouth (before 3:00 p.m.), elevate your day with a trip to this artisan coffee roaster and brew bar!

Well, I just attended my goddaughter's birthday party at Skatin' Station, and wow! I had more fun than the kids. I brought my rollerblades that I haven't used in 10 years and kept falling. I don't think they fit right or that is what I told myself. The rental shop was open so I went "old school" with some roller skates and after a few minutes my skate legs came back. They fit, so I was skating and dancing around the kids like I was a teenager again. You can learn to skate, host parties, come for open skate, visit the Pro Shop, play arcade games, and more. Fun for all ages.

I was recently in the Cultural Center's banquet rooms getting my COVID vaccination and was reminded of all the fun times that I have had here.

Flashback to my figure skating competitions and my husband's hockey games during our youth in the ice arena. Stop in for open skate or learn to "skate" or "play hockey". Besides my vaccinations in the banquet rooms, I have attended several showers (baby and bridal) here too. It's beautifully decorated, well maintained, and the bathrooms are super clean. They also have a huge parking lot so there is no hunting for a parking space.

This Valentine's weekend, my husband and friends enjoyed walking through Downtown Plymouth, eating, and shopping, and supporting local businesses.

We bundled up in our winter gear, started walking the streets, and looking at all the 60+ sponsored ice carvings. All I can say was wow at the details and size of some of these carvings. There was a 5' penguin, a heart with Cupid and his arrow, and my personal favorite was the RE/MAX Balloon.

When we got cold we stopped for breakfast for lunch, coffees, cocktails, and shopping. We had to make a trip back to the car to drop off bags. We go to the Festival about every year and there are always different carvings and we find new places to eat and shop.

This park is most popular for the soccer and little league baseball fields with a water park, and picnic areas. A family and fun place to chill and relax. Even in the winter months, the hills are awesome to sled and saucer down for the most exciting thrill of it all.
