Lake Orion Area Insight

  • Located in Northern Oakland County, this city distinguishes itself from others with its historic downtown village, highly sought-after neighborhoods, and access to plentiful lakes and county parks. Established in 1859, this city centers itself around the quaint downtown village, where you'll find access to many trendy eateries and boutique shops. Try the ever-popular Sagebrush Cantina for some delicious Tex-Mex fare. Take the family to visit the Municipal Park where kids and adults alike enjoy the amenities and observing local wildlife.

The annual Dragon on the Lake Festival in August is cherished by locals and visitors. It features a weekend-long event with food trucks, artisans, a 5k race, activities for children, and the famous dragon-boat races.

Tree-lined neighborhoods, downtown lofts and condos, as well as beautiful lakefront properties can be found all along Lake Orion and neighboring lakes, emulating a Northern Michigan feel. All are within easy reach of M-24 and I-75. With the added benefit of the award-winning Lake Orion School District, this city checks all the boxes for potential home-buyers.
  • This video was shot at the trailhead for the 4.5 mile Red Trail. It is in the east section of the South Unit of the recreation area. Bald Mountain Recreation has three sections. There is a North Unit that borders Lake Orion. The South Unit has two sections; one is located east of M-24 and the other is west of M-24. The park is over 4000 acres.

The Paint Creek Trail runs just to the east of the South Unit and passes between the South and North Units. I can only put one link here so to get more information on this trail you can Google "Paint Creek Trail" and it will pop right up. The Polly Ann Trail runs through the west side of the South Unit.

Given the extensive trail network in Bald Mountain Recreation Area and the two nearby linked major trails, it is an ideal location for hiking/biking, hunting, fishing, swimming, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling. If you would like to live near here Round Tree Subdivision and Perry Acres would be good communities to consider. I will try to post Insights on those communities in the near future.
